As our economy becomes ever increasingly a global one and organizations operate on a multi-national basis, facilities services is often on the bottom of the checklist of concerns. However a lack of concern about your service contractors overseas can be a latent problem with serious implications in terms of corporate embarrassment, liability and employee safety. Issues of international ethics, human rights, working conditions, and environmental and safety concerns are just some of the issues we face in the post 9/11 era. All of these are potential corporate disasters that can be caused by careless outsourcing at overseas facilities.

The ABM Global Alliance was created out of a growing need from American companies for assistance with operations overseas. In response to their concerns, a group of ABM senior executives evaluated facilities service companies throughout the world, a practice still in existence today. This evaluation process includes meetings with owners and senior management, visits to customer facilities, and interviews with customers. A thorough examination of operational and quality control practices, along with records inspections is conducted. Those judged to be leaders under the established criteria are invited to join the ABM Global Alliance. Companies accepting this invitation are required to sign an alliance agreement and code of conduct that reflects the needs and concerns of international clients.
